While we are all living under Covid-19 restrictions, Adult Day Programs are very cautious. For several months our center was closed. In September we were allowed to re-open, but with only 2 seniors allowed in the building at a time. Obviously, that creates an environment where flexibility and creativity are key!
Typically our In Center appointments are for 2 hours. In that time our members enjoy one-on-one attention from a staff member. Activities are tailored to the individual and include favorite games, music, art projects and the opportunity to sit and visit with someone that is not a family member! (Don't we all look forward to those kind of activities after months of quarantine!)
If a visit occurs during our Zoom Group Sessions, the people in center generally take part in that session live with our staff. These sessions are made extra fun with a caregiver sitting next to the member, and a couple of people entertaining at the front of the room.
Snacks are always included in the visit, and a full lunch is provided if the visit falls somewhere in the window of 11am-1pm.
Extreme caution is taken while seniors are in our center. They each spend their time in a designated activity room, and use a private bathroom. The area is cleaned thoroughly between clients. All staff members wear masks, and seniors are encouraged to do the same to the best of their abilities. Seniors have a separate entrance that leads directly to the Senior Suite.
Twice daily we offer Group Sessions via Zoom. These sessions are currently provided for free because of financial subsidies from the State of Oregon.
Each session lasts approximately 1 hour, and includes exercise, conversation, music and lots of love and laughter. We routinely include the Gentog children in these sessions, as Cathy and team bring the laptop to the classrooms so the children can greet our grandparents and sing to them.
This is a particularly fun way to still be able to enjoy group activities live from the safety of your own home. Family members/caregivers are welcome to join in the fun (a partner during exercise is always more fun!)
One-to-one visits are critical for emotional well being. In person visits are not always feasible...and are limited in availability. But we've found a solution!
We are partnering with ViewClix to provide a personal smart frame that allows us to communicate directly with our seniors via private video chat. This device is very simple to set up, and is hands free for your loved ones once it is in their home. Included in the membership fee:
But that's not all!
