You've made the decision to keep your loved one at home for as long as possible. That is a very admirable goal, but it is also a challenge. It can be emotionally stressful and disheartening to care for a loved one with a chronic disease. It can be very physically tiring to care for someone 24/7. The wonderful thing is that you do NOT have to do this all alone. You've heard the phrase about it taking a village to raise a child. Well, we believe that it also takes a village to care for our elderly. And we are here to help you.
In-home care is a well known option, and an excellent one for many families. Adult Day Programs are another excellent option. They are well known in many states, but are not common in Oregon. They should be.
Bringing your loved one to an adult day program allows them to really socialize in a way that they may have experienced at work or at church in the past. They are around lots of people, they can visit and work on projects together. They can sing together, play dominoes, work on an art project or exercise together. They'll enjoy having a meal with a large group of friends. Being around other people with similar challenges is helpful to the person living with a disability...it affords them an opportunity to commiserate if they are so inclined. Best of all, they are free to be who they are today...the very best they can be right now. Curious how we spend our days? See our Senior Activities page.
But guess what? Bringing your loved one to an adult day program is also GOOD FOR YOU. While they spend time here, you can do whatever you need or want to do...worry free. You know that they are safe and cared for (and having a good time), so you can step out of the role of caregiver and just be you for a few hours. Get your errands done if that brings you peace. Go shopping or to the library. Pursue that long lost hobby. Do something to recharge your battery...you'll be a kinder, better caregiver for having taken the time for yourself. If you wonder how other families feel about Gentog, we encourage you to read some of our testimonials.
Gentog's program is available Monday through Friday from 6:30am until 6:30pm. And we're here on Saturdays (just for seniors) from 10am until 5pm. Our hourly rate is less than in-home care...and if you choose to use our services at least twice a week, the rate is considerably less. When you are ready for help every day, our monthly rates work out to be less than $10/hour. You can learn more about our pricing here.
Gentog offers wonderful care for seniors...with the added bonus of spending time every day with children. Most seniors delight in the time spent with our Gentog kids. We structure the time very intentionally so that it stays enjoyable for all.
We practice our Christian faith at Gentog, but we welcome people of all religions and backgrounds. One of our greatest joys is the bringing together of people of all ages and backgrounds.
